Squadron 42, the standalone campaign game set in the Star Citizen universe, is now "feature complete," following about a decade of development. Cloud Imperium Games founder and CEO Chris Roberts made the announcement in a video, confirming that the game is now in the "polish phase."
Senior game director Richard Tyrer added that the team is now working on putting "extra emphasis on ensuring things feel fun." This includes "dialing in" combat encounters, ship systems, and on-the-ground FPS gameplay. The aim, Tyrer said, is to make Squadron 42 feel as "immersive as possible." Squadron 42 features a star-studded cast of celebrities, including Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, John Rhys Davies, Liam Cunningham, and Ben Mendelsohn, among others. The game does not yet have a release date, though. It's described as a cinematic story inspired by sci-fi works of the '70s and '80s.
