The Evil Within Trademark Has Been Renewed for “Continued Use”

the evil within 2

The Evil Within doesn’t get the praise and attention that it deserves. The first game was a great game in its own right, but The Evil Within 2 in particular was absolutely excellent, thanks to its incredible mix of psychological horror, action, and semi-open world gameplay. Calling it one of the best survival horror games in recent memory wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

Sadly, the game didn’t sell very well– in fact, it was, in no vague terms, a commercial flop, and the future of the franchise has been in question for some time now. While Tango Gameworks are busy with GhostWire: Tokyo, fans are still hoping for a new The Evil Within game, and there’s a sliver of new hope that that might just happen in the not so distant future.

As spotted by Somos Xbox, ZeniMax Media – the parent company of Tango owner Bethesda – successfully renewed a trademark for The Evil Within IP in August of last year for “continued use.” That doesn’t have to mean anything, of course- companies wanting to retain trademarks of their owned properties is the most common thing in the world. But trademark renewals often happen before new releases and announcements, and one would hope that that’s the case here as well.

Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll let you know if we hear anything new.
