NieR: Automata on Steam is Finally Being Patched

Nier Automata

Years after it launched on Steam, PlatinumGames’ NieR: Automata will finally receive a patch to address its myriad of issues. This was confirmed by the official NieR Series Twitter, which noted that, an “upgrade patch” for the PC version was currently in development. More information will be provided at a “later date.”

Though NieR: Automata received tons of acclaim when it released in 2017, the Steam version was marred by a locked framerate, resolution issues (which could only be fixed by adding borderless windowed mode through a separate program) and iffy mouse-and-keyboard controls. This is in addition to stuttering, crashes and the UI being stretched on ultra-wide monitors. Despite complaints, however, there were seemingly no plans for fixes.

So what changed? NieR: Automata – Game of the YoRHa Edition recently came to Xbox Game Pass on PC and the Windows Store with QLOC handling the port. Features like HDR support and borderless windowed mode were included, leading to fans review-bombing the Steam version, demanding it be fixed as well. Analysis by Digital Foundry would later reveal QLOC’s port to actually have its own issues while being worse in several other areas. You can check out that video below.

Hopefully, the upgrade patch for the Steam version will improve NieR: Automata and lay its issues to rest once and for all. Stay tuned for more details until then.
