Valheim Was Made by a Team of Just 5 People, Developer is in the Process of Expanding

Valheim

Iron Gate AB’s open world survival title Valheim launched in early access on Steam earlier this month, and almost immediately, it blew up. Critical reception for the game has been solid, and it’s quickly accumulated a massive playerbase, having sold over 3 million copies in a very short time. The game has drawn special praise for its size, complexity, and mechanical depth, which makes it all the more surprising that Valheim as it exists right now was developed by a very small team.

Speaking with PC Gamer in a recent interview, Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist revealed that Valheim was developed by a team of just five people. With the game having seen a massive explosion in popularity and having seen much more success than the developers had anticipated, Iron Gate are now in the process of expanding and recruiting more people to continue supporting and adding to the game.

“We will hire some people, absolutely,” he said when asked about whether Iron Gate AB is going to expand. “We are currently starting up that process. Yeah, there will be more people to handle everything, because we have reached our limit by now of everything we can do.”

Valheim is currently in early access, and developers have plans to keep it in its early access state for at least a year, during which time they will be adding plenty of new content to the game. Currently, the roadmap for that planned content includes more bosses, crafting recipes, additional biomes, and more.
