Developer Rebellion has released a new trailer for upcoming shooter Sniper Elite: Resistance which focuses on providing a general overplay of the title’s gameplay, including for things like key features and mission details. Check out the trailer below.
Players will step into the shoes of new protagonist Harry Hawker, with the trailer describing him as being a seasoned combatant and a relentless freedom fighter. Hawker takes the lead this time around because traditional series protagonist Fairburne is still deployed in France, since the game’s story takes place concurrently with the events of Sniper Elite 5.
Hawker’s mission will also take place in France, but behind enemy lines. The game will revolve around Hawker establish contact with the French resistance, and players will have to work to help the resistance in driving out the Nazi presence in the area. Along the way, Hawker will also have to help stop the development of a sinister new weapon that is being created by the Nazi forces.
Much like previous Sniper Elite titles, Sniper Elite: Resistance will have its core boots on the ground gameplay revolve around stealth. Players will have to sneak around occupying Nazi forces and explore era-appropriate buildings and structures inspired by real-world buildings that were created thanks to advanced photogrammetry.
Along with skulking around on the ground, Hawker can also make use of his parkour skills to navigate difficult terrain, and even climb up buildings by making use of structures like pipes, allowing him new ways of sneaking in and around buildings that might otherwise have only one or two obvious entrances at ground level.
Sniper Elite: Resistance also marks a return for the franchise’s popular X-ray killcam, which allows players to look at the internal damage caused by their sniper bullets in all their gory detail. The trailer states that the feature will be present in Resistance in its most advanced form yet, having seen numerous updates since the feature was first released with each game.
Along with the primary mission about helping the French resistance, Sniper Elite: Resistance will also feature secondary objective that helps the resistance out in smaller, but still meaningful ways. These secondary objectives range from helping them out in active combat, to engaging in a separate stealth mission to provide a distraction for the Nazi forces, allowing resistance members to complete their own missions.
When it comes to getting ready for missions, the game features quite a bit of customisation to allow players to form their perfect, preferred loadouts. This means that, for a mission where getting kills isn’t that necessary, players can choose non-lethal ammo and diversionary tactical items like smoke grenades. Getting ready for an all-out firefight, on the other hand, means grabbing FMJ bullets and explosive grenades might be more useful. Even mines can be brought along in case you have to deal with tanks or other heavy vehicles.
The trailer also describes a new type of missions that players can partake in: propaganda missions. Activated by finding and interacting with propaganda posters, these new type of missions task players with taking on Nazi forces in unique ways, be it through only long-range sniping, melee kills, or even non-lethal take downs. These missions are repeatable, allowing players to get better scores.
The main campaign can also be played with a friend in a fully-fledged co-op mode, which allows players to take on the game’s challenges in new and interesting ways. Much like its predecessor, the title also features a Survival mode, which pits up to 4 players against non-stop hordes of Nazi soldiers.
Sniper Elite: Resistance is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and will hit store shelves on January 30. Players can also grab the Deluxe Edition, which will grant them two days of early access to the game, along with other goodies, including the M1911 pistol. The Deluxe Edition also includes a Season Pass, which will feature three more campaign missions and weapon packs.
