The indie game publisher Humble Games has reportedly laid off its entire staff, which consists of 36 people, resulting in it completely closing down.
According to a now-former Humble Games senior quality assurance analyst, their entire team was let go. Another employee, who was a producer, also said he was being made redundant. The publisher already had two rounds of layoffs, first in April 2022 and then in November 2023. Now, the entire publisher has seemingly shut down. GameSpot has reached out to Humble Games for comment.
Humble Games is the publisher of many notable indie games, including Stray Gods, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, Chinatown Detective Agency, Ikenfell, Unpacking, Slay the Spire, and Midnight Fight Express, just to name a few.
Humble Games is the separate publishing arm of digital storefront Humble Bundle. Both companies are owned by IGN Entertainment, but operate as a separate entities. Earlier this year, IGN Entertainment also bought video game websites Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, GamesIndustry.biz, and Dicebreaker from Gamer Network.
Layoffs in the video game industry continue to persist in 2024, with the most-recent ones including Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm, which laid off its mobile team.
