The Wolf Among Us 2 Has Been Delayed Out Of 2023

Telltale Games announced that it has delayed The Wolf Among Us 2 out of 2023. The decision was made in order to avoid developer crunch and smooth out the transition between Unreal Engine 4 to 5.

"We started work on this in 2020 and we're still determined to tell the ongoing story of Bigby and the rest of the Fabletown gang. However, it is going to require more time. As disappointed as you are hearing this, we feel worse having to say it," Telltale Games said in a statement.

Telltale Games continued, "But the work continues. We're committed to delivering the sequel fans deserve and doing what's right for the game while protecting the health of our team."

Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie explained that the team decided to switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. He noted that the new engine has interesting features that required redoing work already done in Unreal 4 and that he didn't want to ship the game in an unfinished game in order to meet the 2023 release window.

"If we put this game out and it's not ready, we're going to get torn to shreds," Ottilie said to IGN. "The expectations are pretty high, and we want time to meet those and we want to be proud of it and know that, 'Hey, this is the best game we could have made.' Let the world say what they will [once] it's done, but at least we know that in these times, in these conditions, this is the best game that we could make."

The Wolf Among Us 2 was first officially revealed at The Game Awards in 2019. The game was originally planned for a 2023 release date, but now, it's being pushed out until later. It will launch for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

In GameSpot's The Wolf Among Us review, we said, "It's a triumph of tight plotting, wild imagination, and sure-handed direction. It's a game that never flinches in taking its story and its chain-smoking protagonist everywhere it can."
