The Resident Evil 4 remake is coming soon and as part of the promo cycle, Capcom released a Resident Evil 4 anime with minute-long episodes. Episode one came out on March 20, and the new episode two continues to depict RE4 in an art style directly inspired by the World Masterpiece Theater anime, a series showcasing family-friendly classics like Anne of Green Gables.
In episode two, Leon continuously rescues Ashley as she gets kidnapped by various enemies. He progressively gets more injured until a lovely "You are dead" flashes across the screen. A rainbow shows up and Colmillos (wolves who are infected with Las Plagas and have tentacle-like things erupting from their insides) prance across the sky.
It's very funny to see a short-and-sweet spoof of RE4's plot and all the ways Leon can die. Video game adaptations have been a hot topic in entertainment for the past few years, with HBO Max's The Last of Us as a recent high-profile successful example. RE4's anime may just be short episodes that serve more as advertisements for the RE4 remake game, but it's definitely one of the more charming video game "adaptations."
The Resident Evil 4 remake releases on March 24 for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S. Reviews are already out, and it earned a sparkling 10/10 in GameSpot's Resident Evil 4 review. Critic Kurt Indovina praised the game for the way it both innovates on what made RE4 so great, while preserving the overall original experience. "Resident Evil 4 remake is the re-envisioning I wanted, but also not the one I expected to get," Indovina said. "As a Resident Evil 4 purist, I feared that messing with the magic of an all-time classic would spell disaster. Instead, the Resident Evil 4 remake deviates from the original in many significant ways, but never compromises anything that made it revolutionary."
