Housemarque released a new patch for Returnal yesterday but unfortunately, it did more harm than good. Many users reported their saves being corrupted and losing progress. The developer has pulled patch 1.3.3 in response and is reverting to the previous version until the issue is fixed.
A new patch should be out soon but in the meantime, those affected by the current version need to re-download the game. As for whether one can check if they’ve been affected or not, an error called “CE-100028-1” should pop-up. Those who remain unsure are advised to wait for the next patch. “To be safe, don’t start the game before the upcoming patch is available and downloaded.”
Returnal released on April 30th for PS5 and despite garnering strong critical praise, it’s had some technical issues like crashes. Players have also complained about the lack of mid-run saves. Housemarque had nothing to announce regarding save options but said it was listening to feedback from the community. In the meantime, stay tuned for more details on the next patch.

We are fixing the issue now and a new patch will be published in a few hours
All users affected by the 1.3.3 need to re-download the game.
