Resident Evil Village Enjoyed the Series’ Biggest PC Launch

It has been clear for some time now that Capcom have high expectations from Resident Evil Village, both in terms of its critical reception and how it sells. As far as the latter is concerned, we obviously won’t know exactly how well the game has sold in its first few days until Capcom releases official sales figures, but we do have an idea of the start it’s gotten off to on PC, at least.

As spotted by Eurogamer, according to SteamDBResident Evil Village had a peak concurrent player count of 101,726 players on Steam on the day of its release (it’s current peak concurrent player count at the time of writing is 106,631). That’s the biggest launch for a Resident Evil game on PC- higher than both Resident Evil 2’s remake in 2018 (which had a launch day concurrent peak of 74,024 players), last year’s Resident Evil 3 remake (32,635 players), and 2017’s Resident Evil 7 (18,211 players).

Resident Evil Village is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. We were big fans of the game as well, so if you ask us, it definitely deserves its solid launch. In our review, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Resident Evil Village expertly combines tense horror, thrilling action, engaging exploration, and compelling storytelling in a single sublime experience, delivering one of the best games in the history of Capcom’s beloved survival horror franchise.” You can read our full review through here.
