Embracer Group has been on a veritable spending spree for some time now, and it seems like every few months, they end up picking up multiple new studios to add to their lineup of internal developers. Just recently, they acquired four more studios, bringing that total number of internal studios to a whopping 68. And it doesn’t seem like they have any plans of slowing down any time soon.
In the company’s recent quarterly earnings call (via @EmbracerInvest on Twitter), CEO Lars Wingefors confirmed that in the previous quarter, Embracer was in talks with over 150 companies for acquisitions and mergers, some of whom were “large companies that could form additional operating groups and have a significant impact on the group as a whole.” Wingefors also added that of those 150, Embracer is currently in “late-stage talks” with over 20 of them, which means many more acquisitions might well be on the horizon.
Earlier this year, Embracer confirmed that it had set aside nearly $900 million for acquisitions, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Especially with the recent acquisition of Gearbox, however, one has to wonder what else Embracer could be eyeing next.
