One of the first and best-known viral videos, Charlie Bit My Finger, is set to be removed from YouTube as its owners prepare to sell it as an NFT.
After 880 million views, the clip's owners are looking to let one person--and one person alone--have the glory of owning the video. Not only that, but the person who wins the auction will get the chance to make a parody video with Harry and Charlie from the clip.
"The beloved clip has become a household name and holds a special place in the hearts of many," reads a line from the CharlieBitMe NFT website. "Now, the iconic video will be removed from YouTube and one person will have the opportunity to own it in its new form as a 1/1 NFT, memorializing them in internet history forever. The NFT winner will also get the opportunity to create their own parody of the video featuring the original stars, Harry and Charlie."
