Following a report by Bloomberg Japan about several parties being interested in purchasing Square Enix, the company has released a statement denying the same. President and representative director Yosuke Matsuda said that the report was not based on “any announcement by Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. We do not consider selling off the company or any part of its business.”
It also denied receiving offers from any third party to “acquire the company or any part of its business.” The original report was based on information from “two bank officials familiar with the situation” but the interested parties were not named. Given the number of acquisitions that have been taking place, like Microsoft acquiring Bethesda, it didn’t seem too far-fetched for Square Enix to be acquired.
For the time being, however, that’s not happening. In the meantime, Square Enix is working on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the remake’s next part, Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion, NieR: Replicant ver.1.22474487139…(which releases on April 23rd), Final Fantasy 16, NEO: The World Ends With You and Forspoken. There also a number of mobile titles in the works like Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier and Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis.
