PS5 Has Shipped Over 7.8 Million Units Worldwide

In spite of consistent supply shortages (that are likely to continue for some time to come), the PS5 is selling rather well (which seems like a bit of an understatement). In their latest quarterly financial report, Sony confirmed that as of March 31, the PS5 has shipped over 7.8 million units worldwide, adding 3.3 million shipments to its total figures over the past quarter (January-March). In its first three months, it had shipped 4.5 million units worldwide.

That’s an impressive figure for multiple reasons. For starters, it’s just really good sales for the console, and coming during a pandemic and supply shortages no less. On top of that, the PS5’s worldwide shipments right now are above the figure Sony had projected earlier this year, which means it’s tracking better than they had expected. Finally, it’s currently outpacing the sales of the PS4, which, within the same timeframe in its life, had shipped 7.6 million units worldwide- not a huge gap, sure, but a gap nonetheless.

Over the ongoing financial year, Sony is expecting PS5 sales to improve even further.
