While the PlayStation 5 is the center of attention and demand, having shipped 7.8 million units thus far, the PlayStation 4 is still selling. In its recent financial report, Sony revealed that the previous-gen console had shipped 115.9 million units worldwide. One million units were shipped in the quarter ending March 31st 2021.
Shipments are down by 400,000 units compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, the PS4 remains one of Sony’s best-selling consoles, surpassed only by the PlayStation 2. The fact that there’s still demand makes the decision to release titles like Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 along with PS5 makes that much more sense.
As for the PS5, Sony has big plans for the coming months. Housemarque’s Returnal is out on April 30th while tomorrow’s State of Play will provide more details on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart which releases in June. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade also lands in June, bringing new Yuffie-focused story content with Episode INTERmission. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
