Microsoft’s $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda has now been officially finalized, but funnily enough, even so, Bethesda’s next two big releases, Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo, are going to be console exclusives for the PS5. Microsoft has given assurances previously that in spite of its acquisition of Bethesda, those exclusivity deals will be honoured, and in case there was ever any doubt, that’s now been reconfirmed.
A statement from Bethesda in the latest issue of Game Informer (which features Deathloop as its cover story) clarifies that the Microsoft’s hasn’t had an impact on the upcoming Arkane shooter’s development, and that it’s still going to launch as a console exclusive for the PS5 (via VGC). “The acquisition hasn’t affected day-to-day development of Deathloop, which we’re developing exclusively for PlayStation 5 on console and also PC,” said a Bethesda spokesperson.
Deathloop launches for the PS5 and PC on May 21. It’s been previously confirmed that the game’s PS5 console exclusivity will last for a year.
