Due to delays, high profile departures from the studio, and reports of troubled development, the state of Techland’s upcoming Dying Light 2 has looked murky for some time now. Recently, art director and narrative director Paweł Selinger left Techland after over twenty years at the studio. Now, the studio has issued a statement talking about the state of the game’s development, and Selinger’s recent departure.
In a statement to GamingBolt, Techland assured that “the position of Art Director is not threatened”, and has actually been held by Eric Cochonneau since November 2019. “Eric has been taking care of every aspect of the upcoming production ever since and the team under his leadership is doing their best to offer players the best game possible,” the developer says.
Meanwhile, Selinger had been acting as Narrative Designer on the game for two years up until his recent departure, following which the position was taken over by Piotr Szymanek.
“Paweł Selinger, who has been the Narration Designer for the last two years, decided at the end of 2020 to end his cooperation with Techland and to pursue his further career elsewhere,” the developer said in its statement. “Paweł spent most of his professional life at Techland and he, among others, takes credit for the success of the series Call of Juarez. He left a large piece of himself with Dying Light 2, as he worked on the project from the very beginning. His duties, i.e. the narrative department, were taken over by Piotr Szymanek in October 2020.”
Techland also says that it will be sharing “exciting news” about the game “soon.”
Dying Light 2 is due out some time in 2021, but currently has no confirmed launch date. In May 2020, Techland said that the game was in the final stages of its development and was being polished. When it launches, Dying Light 2 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
