Thailand to allow use of cannabis in cosmetic products

THE WHAT? Thailand has made a landmark decision to allow the use of most parts of cannabis and hemp for cosmetics and food, with individuals and businesses now also being able to cultivate hemp seed and seed extract.

THE DETAILS Public Health Permanent Secretary Kiattiphum Wongrajit has stated that the government now plans to reduce restrictions around the use of cannabis, with the decision from the Narcotics Control Committee meaning that it will remove cannabis and hemp leaves, branches, stems, trunks, bark, fiber, and roots from the country’s narcotic list. The flower continues to be banned.

As part of the government reform, THC and CBD are limited to 0.2 percent.

THE WHY? Thailand is said to be the first Southeast Asian country to legalize medical cannabis, according to CTN News, with the new regulation reform opening up the region to the lucrative CBD personal care industry.
