2020 has been quite the year for a lot of reasons, many of them terrible in nature. But on the gaming side, it’s been a pretty strong year all things considered. Before we go headfirst into 2021, it’s time to take a bit of a look back at what was at the top of charts for the ending year. Valve has done that with their Steam platform, looking back at the top grossing and played titles on the popular PC platform.
Steam has released a grouping of the top games of the year in a rather unique format. They have options for various categories, including top grossing and top played, divided into four sections: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Actual numbers are not given, but games like Cyberpunk 2077, Among Us, Doom Eternal, Grand Theft Auto 5 and many other big titles that shouldn’t surprise you are at the top in the Platinum section, with other titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Crusader Kings 3 and Sea of Thieves being in Gold. After that in Silver and Bronze is some who’s who of titles released throughout the year such as Hades, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Marvel’s Avengers, Resident Evil 3, Persona 4 Golden and many others.
There are a few other categories, including Most Played (that looks very similar to the Top Sellers, as you’d expect), but also for most successful early access titles, Best of VR and top games played with a controller. What’s interesting there is some of the top games played with controllers is quite a bit different than the top grossing titles with games like Hades and Kakarot being in the highest tier.
You can check out the full list with all entries through here. The Steam Winter Sale is also currently running so you can manage to get a lot of these titles at a discount.
