THE WHAT? An outbreak of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Procter & Gamble’s Belleville plant, with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reporting a total of 15 cases at the location.
THE DETAILS HPEPH released a statement to announce that it was working closely with P&G, with contact information of those that were at the plant between the dates of 15-25 November.
The plant, which has approximately 1000 staff and 600 third-party contractors, is continuing to operate, with Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza stating that products manufactured by P&G are not deemed a transmission risk.
THE WHY? While workplace outbreaks are not normally disclosed by the HPEPH, information on the P&G outbreak was announced for public health reasons such as contact tracing.
Dr. Oglaza said, “It is incredibly important that impacted individuals isolate immediately and seek testing as directed by public health in order to prevent further local transmission of COVID-19.
“While the risk to the community from this outbreak is considered low at this time, it serves as an important reminder to residents of Hastings Prince Edward to continue to follow public health guidance at all times, whether in the workplace, out in the community or at home.”
