With last week being Black Friday week, physical game sales in the UK (and in many other regions) were astronomically high, to little surprise. As reported by GamesIndustry, over a million physical games were sold in the country across the week, which is down from the 1.3 million that were sold in 2019’s Black Friday week, but still an impressive number nonetheless.
The Nintendo Switch dominated software charts in terms of sales numbers, thanks in part to the stock shortages being faced by the Xbox Series X and PS5. 38% of all boxed sales came from Nintendo Switch games, with several Switch titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons (No. 3), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No. 4), Minecraft (No. 8), and Super Mario 3D All-Stars (No. 9) all seeing significant boosts in week-on-week sales.
FIFA 21 climbed back to the top of the charts, thanks to discounted prices, and saw a 35% week-on-week rise in sales. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which nabbed the top spot last week, fell down to second place, while Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales fell to No. 6. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla dropped down to No, 5 as well, though Marvel’s Avengers re-entered the top 10 thanks to an 80% week-on-week boost in sales following discounts.
