Sony Has Filed “Soho Engine” Trademark

Here’s a blast from the past. As spotted by Gematsu over on Twitter, it seems Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a “Soho Engine” trademark in Europe. If you’re thinking that name sounds familiar- you’re right. It does.

Team Soho was, of course, the London-based development team that made the PS2 cult classic The GetawayUnfortunately, that was also the last game they developed, before being shut down in 2002 and merged with SCEE Camden (later known as Studio Liverpool, also eventually shut down) and SCEE London (now known as SIE London Studio).

What exactly Soho Engine? It could be anything, honesty. The trademark filing doesn’t give us much to go on other than the name itself. The mosr optimistic sort will likely want to believe that it’s the engine Sony are using for a surprise The Getaway reboot or sequel. It’s possible that its a VR engine being developed by Blood and Truth developers SIE London Studio, who’re using the Soho name as sort of a nod.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before Sony reveals what the Soho Engine is and what it’s being used for. Until then, stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.
